SmarterMail offers a seamless installation process on both Windows and Linux, ensuring a hassle-free setup for administrators. The installer automatically deploys essential core files, checks system compatibility, and installs any missing dependencies to meet the minimum server requirements. Whether you’re running a Windows Server, a Linux-based environment, SmarterMail efficiently configures its framework, updates necessary components, and optimizes performance. SSL/TLS Management
SmarterMail makes SSL/TLS management a breeze, enabling Server Name Indication (SNI) and ensuring secured connections are made to the correct mail domains. Using the ACME protocol, SmarterMail can automate SSL certificate issuance and renewal via Let’s Encrypt, or server administrators can upload their own certificates as needed.
User Impersonation
There are times when a system administrator will need to access domain or user specific information. Impersonation automatically logs in as a user or domain administrator, and is a secure method of examining settings or diagnosing problems directly.
Comprehensive Logging
SmarterMail contains some of the most comprehensive logging of any mail server. From ActiveSync to XMPP, and everything in between, all logs can be set to the detail level an administrator wants. Administrators can even enable custom logs when working with SmarterTools support to dig even deeper into what’s going on.
Detailed Reporting
With dozens of pre-defined reports, SmarterMail provides critical statistics on server health, disk space usage, incoming and outgoing messages and more that help system and domain administrators monitor their systems. All reports include the ability to drill down into every domain or user on the system to help identify trends, manage costs and effectively allocate resources.
Password Management
To ensure the security of the mail server and its mailboxes, system administrators have a number of options for setting specific, minimum requirements for user passwords. These include minimum length requirements, special character requirements and more. In addition, they can prevent common or previously used passwords, automatically expire passwords and more.
Understand User Behavior
SmarterMail monitors users and displays a variety of information system and domain administrators can use to head off issues before they become problems. This includes:

- Last login date
- Authenticated IPs
- Authentication method
- Migration status
- Indexing status
- Password compliance

Having this information allows administrators to take action if something seems out of the ordinary, like dropping connections, re-syncing protocols for a user, reindexing a user’s account, and more.
Mailbox Migration
SmarterMail’s integrated migration utility allows new users to effortlessly transfer their email and collaboration items from platforms like Office365, MailEnable, and Open-Xchange. Domain administrators can import users at the domain level and set user defaults for propagation as necessary. System administrators can monitor all ongoing migrations in real-time and can halt them if required, with server migration managed under a unified codebase for Linux.
Remote Management
Using a web-based interface means both domain and system administrators can access and manage their domains and servers from anywhere, at any time. In addition, a completely API-driven structure means tying SmarterMail in to any third-party monitoring service, management platform or notification system is simple.
Comprehensive API
Having an extensive API means that administrators can automate virtually any function within SmarterMail, from domain creation to on-demand changes to spam and security settings. In addition, as the API is fully documented, third-party developers can build integration modules for SmarterMail. We’ve also created our own modules for some of the leading management applications and control panels that are used by organizations around the world.
Hand Off Duties
System administrators have the ability to lighten their workload and focus on more important duties by handing off simple, day-to-day tasks to domain administrators. For example, things like creating domain aliases or managing spam filter actions can be managed by domain administrators, giving system administrators more time to concentrate on overall server and system management.
